I was so disappointed when MAC recently decided to convert their brushes to synthetic fibers. I had several of their brushes on my wishlist to try in the future. I did purchase one of their synthetic brushes, the 139S duo fiber blush brush to try.
Pictured here is MAC’s natural hair versions of the 239, 217, and 224. I do think the 224 is scratchy and I have experienced softer blending brushes. I haven’t had my 224 for as long as the other two, so maybe it will soften up. I personally prefer my Sonia Kashuk No. 109 (now discontinued) when I want that size and shape of blending brush. I don’t often use that size however because it tends to be too big for my eyes unless I am doing just one color through my crease.
I enjoy the 239 for packing color onto the eyelid, but I do prefer the Sonia Kashuk No. 106 (now discontinued). The newly redesigned Sonia Kashuk small eyeshadow brush is also quite good for packing color on the lid.
The 217 does seem to be unique in shape and size to me. The only brush I’d say I use interchangeably with it is my Chanel #25 brush (now discontinued) but it is not really the same shape or size.
Have you used any of MAC’s new synthetic brushes? How are you liking them?
